5 Albyn Place, Edinburgh
Complete Dec 2015
This project involved the conversion of an A-Listed townhouse into five luxury apartments, including the conversion of a mews into a two-bedroom dwelling.
The grandeur of the front elevation is emphasised by the stunning architectural detailing such as the Doric columns and panelled pilasters.
An overbearing two storey 1930’s extension was removed to make way for a contemporary glazed and ashlar stone extension, while the upper four floors of the main townhouse were converted into luxurious open plan livings spaces.
The mews has been converted in a traditional manner in accordance with the client's brief, creating a modest two bedroom dwelling with private south facing garden space.
This was an exceptionally challenging conversion, not only due to the building's listing but also the restrictive existing floor plans. However, what this property did have to offer was the stunning original features, which, through careful restoration, have been given a new lease of life and can be enjoyed in each of the grand Georgian apartments.
