Howe Street, Edinburgh
Complete March 2016
The brief for this project was to create a cutting-edge, two-bedroom New Town apartment in the existing lower ground floor property. Although there is no precedent for rear extensions to this particular area and the property is A-Listed, consent was gained for extensive alterations and a contemporary rear extension. The property has an extensive raised garden to the rear allowing the new extension sit sensitively with the garden and the wildflower green roof allowing the new addition to blend seamlessly into the surroundings.
Internally the property will be completely stripped back and the new works include streamlined finishes and features, a luxury en-suite and bathroom and contemporary fireplace.
Designing the wild-flower roof in conjunction with the Structural Engineer ensured that the detailing of the large overhang was to be as slender as possible. The tapered profile also allows for the wild-flowers to be seen from the garden as well as from the neighbouring flats.
