Miller Row
Flavours brief called for a flexible space that would celebrate the building’s industrial history. The interior design embraced the raw concrete structure, deliberately exposing servicing elements. The addition of a newly installed polished concrete floor was in contrast to the existing materiality and contributed to a subtle play of light, complemented with contemporary industrial task lighting and the incorporation of crittall glazed screening to delineate meeting spaces. The severe materiality of the main space is offset by the introduction of hanging plants from the ceiling suspended ducting trays along with large palms and soft furnishings to soften informal breakout spaces.
The comprehensive renovation involved installing replacement windows and enhancing the main facade by introducing additional fenestration to improve the internal natural light quality into the deep plan. Preserving the rhythm and matching the proportions of the existing window openings was critical to the scheme due to the listed status of the building and its placement in the Dean Conservation Area, paramount to maintaining its historical integrity.
Addressing the clients various operational needs, the design allows for dedicated spaces for sales, client and team meetings, a high-end kitchen for private cooking demonstrations along with relaxed informal meeting areas. The spaces were thoughtfully crafted, employing glazed screening, varied materiality, strategic furniture arrangement, and multi-functional room dividers that also serve as storage. This meticulous space planning ensures seamless transitions within the interior, maximising the existing buildings potential.
