Craigleith road
This residential development, occupying the former site of a garage amidst a diverse array of architectural styles ranging from Victorian bungalows to Georgian terraces and 1960s semi-detached dwellings, boasts a sophisticated three-story design. Consisting of eight four-bedroom family homes, each adorned with a refined brick facade, the development exudes timeless elegance.
Distinctive vertical strips of full-height glazing punctuate the front facade, serving as both aesthetic accents and practical entry points for each residence. Embracing an architectural motif of protection and interconnectedness, each dwelling is enveloped by an ‘L-shaped’ brick wall that gracefully overlaps with its neighbours, fostering a sense of cohesion and security. This design choice not only shields inhabitants but also strategically guides them towards the rear terrace and garden, promoting a seamless indoor-outdoor lifestyle.
The rear elevation showcases a series of stepped levels, facilitating access to private balconies from the first and second-floor bedrooms. These thoughtfully integrated outdoor spaces provide additional amenities and opportunities for relaxation, enriching the living experience for residents at Craigleith Road.
In a nod to the surrounding vernacular, the second story of the development is artfully stepped back, in a sensitive response to the sloping roofs of neighbouring residences. Here, a departure from the brick facade below is executed with finesse, as vertical metal cladding in a sophisticated matte pearl beige/grey hue takes centre stage. This material choice not only contrasts with the warmth of the brick but also harmonises with the surrounding context, offering a contemporary twist on traditional architectural elements.
