viewforth
Working collaboratively with Whiteburn, the proposals at Viewforth in Kirkcaldy seek to sensitively develop the site of a former Listed school into residential use. The elevated site has fantastic views to the south over The Firth of Forth and due to the topography of the site, these residential properties will all be able to take advantage of this elevated vantage point.
The ambition of the masterplan was to create a place led proposal that was reflective of the local context and that worked to reduce the impact of the high level of parking requirements across the site, with a focus on landscaping and amenity. The school grounds were developed to create a community of family homes, within a well designed environment that will be the pride of its residents. The use and feel of the spaces between the buildings is as important as the buildings themselves.
Following two productive public consultations, designs were submitted for a community-driven development which reflected the desires of the local public. The blend of private sale and affordable housing, including 2, 3, 4 and 5 bedrooms, on the site ensures this is a development accessible for all to enjoy. The proposals were also designed to reflect the density of the local area, made up of detached, semi-detached and terraced houses.
The original proposals were to safeguard and restore the existing C-Listed former school building, which was the anchor for the site, and convert it into high quality residential apartments, however the school building sadly suffered fire damage and was unable to be saved.
